What is a PAT test?

It is a test to check the Electrical Safety of Portable Appliances. This includes a visual inspection to check for damage to the lead or the appliance and both internal and external state of the plug. This is followed by electrical tests to ensure that the appliance conforms to the health and safety regulations.

A Portable Appliance is anything that has a plug on it and requires plugging into a mains socket, this includes 110v equiment.

Are my appliances already safe?

If the appliance is not earthed (heater, computer or kettle), the appliance will still work but it could be dangerous and you may get an electric shock.

The only way to determine if electrical appliances are safe and fit for the job it is being used for is to have it PAT Tested.

Having your appliances PAT Tested may reduce injury claims and minimise fire risk.
